About the company

Liana joined NRG in December 2025 as Chief Risk Officer, where she leads the company’s enterprise-wide risk strategy and governance. Liana has nearly 20 years of experience in risk management and trading-adjacent roles across the energy and financial services sectors. Previously, she served as Chief Risk Officer at AES, where she built global risk capabilities and drove enterprise risk management transformation to enable strategic growth and resilience. Earlier in her career, she held leadership roles at firms such as J.P. Morgan and Macquarie, focusing on risk management across energy and other asset class teams, as well as independent valuations, compliance oversight, and product control. Originally from South Africa, Liana spent a decade in Singapore before settling in Houston in 2019. Liana holds a Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science and a postgraduate Honours degree in Financial Risk Management & Mathematics from Stellenbosch University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder. When Liana isn’t focused on all things Risk, she spends her time in Houston with her family, mothering 2 most amazing and busy little humans.
